11/17/2011 | SELECT GROUP JOINS FORCES WITH McCLUNG COMPANIES

(Waynesboro, VA) McClung Companies has integrated the commercial print services of Select Group, a Salem printer since 1967, into its full service graphic communication organization of printing, mailing and integrated marketing services. Select Group will continue to produce its contract work.

By joining forces, one of Salem's highly-regarded printing companies will become part of an organization well-known for its leadership in technology, quality product and exceptional customer service. Jim Beasley, Select Group's Director of Client Services, will continue as account manager for his clients at McClung.

"It's an honor to welcome Jim into the growing McClung family," noted Tom Trevillian, McClung President and CEO. "He has served our industry with integrity and skill, earning the respect of his customers and peers."

Beasley added, "I am excited about being able to offer a wider range of services to my clients, while at the same time maintaining my personal and professional commitment to high quality printing and customer service."

The combined company will operate out of McClung's facility in Waynesboro.

Assisting with the transaction was Dick Halterman of Murphy Business Brokers in Mt. Sidney, Va.

09/17/2011 | McCLUNG IMPLEMENTS LEAN/SIX SIGMA

(Waynesboro, VA) McClung Companies, a full service graphic communications organization, has enhanced its quality management program with Lean/Six Sigma. Building on McClung's 99.4% success rate of product and service quality, Lean/Six Sigma implements continuous improvement. "Lean" identifies and eliminates waste; "Six Sigma" identifies and reduces sources of variation.

"We recognized the value that Lean/Six Sigma could have in delivering better products and services to our customers," noted Sheila Southall, McClung's Lean/Six Sigma leader. "Since implementing Lean/Six Sigma, numerous areas of improvement have been noted and operations have been streamlined."

McClung's Lean/Six Sigma program will rely heavily on customer input, as well as input from McClung employees. Their knowledge of the process is vital. Coupled with client needs and experiences, employees will be able to effectively make process improvements.

McClung entered into the Lean/Six Sigma program through a key customer. Southall received extensive training through their program and recently completed her first project along with six project team members. She was awarded a certificate for improving the printing and folding of inserts on 40 pound paper.
